Canada’s Top Pet-Friendly RV Parks

For a lot of Canadian families, a camping trip isn’t a camping trip without the dog. Canada is a pet-lover’s paradise, and before you pick a park it is worth knowing what makes a trail dog-friendly: the terrain, how much shade there is, whether there is water along the way, the wildlife risk, and how busy it gets.

British Columbia

Golden Ears Provincial Park sits beneath its twin peaks and offers stunning scenery and plenty of dog-friendly hiking trails, with designated off-leash areas. Porteau Cove Provincial Park, on a fjord, has sandy beaches your dog can use, walking trails and campsites that accommodate pets.

Alberta

Elk Island National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, allows leashed dogs on most trails. Jasper National Park — the largest in the Canadian Rockies, and a dark sky preserve — has mountain hiking, designated dog-friendly swimming zones and off-leash play areas.

Ontario

Bon Echo Provincial Park is built around a 100-metre cliff carrying Indigenous pictographs; dogs must stay leashed. Sandbanks Provincial Park has expansive sandy beaches on Lake Ontario where leashed dogs can swim.

Quebec

Mont-Tremblant National Park is open to pets year-round, with off-leash areas. Parc national du Bic has perhaps the most spectacular sunsets in Canada, coastal trails, and designated dog swimming zones.

Nova Scotia

Cape Breton Highlands National Park takes in the Cabot Trail, with dog-friendly paths and off-leash areas. Kejimkujik National Park has canoe routes, lakes, forest and petroglyphs; dogs must be leashed on the trails.
